Executive Chef
Eyck Zimmer was appointed Executive Chef of The Lowry Hotel in July 2005. In 2006 he was awarded National Chef of the Year a title he will retain for 2 years. Previous winners include Gordon Ramsay and Mark Sangster.
Eyck, an internationally acclaimed, award- winning chef, looks after the full range of services at the hotel, from The River Bar and Restaurant, The Terrace to room service and the hotel’s many conferences and private functions. Eyck manages a team of 30 chefs at The Lowry Hotel and is responsible for creating and implementing all in house menus, with his main focus being the continued enhancement of the Restaurant’s reputation as one of the best in the city. During his time at The Lowry Hotel, he has won Manchester Chef of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival and The River Restaurant has won restaurant of the year at the Manchester Tourism Awards.
German born Eyck joins The Lowry Hotel from The Ritz in London. With 40 culinary awards under his belt, Eyck will bring a wealth of international experience to the River Restaurant, having also worked in some of the best restaurants in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, and Portugal.
35 year old Eyck began his illustrious career in Germany before moving on to work across Europe. Eyck has enjoyed a career that has included posts at some of London’s most prestigious five star hotels including The Dorchester, The Berkeley, The Lanesborough and Claridges.
Eyck’s influences extend from classic British dishes to the more diverse flavours of fusion cuisine. Basing his approach on the philosophy that cooking should be a ‘carefully balanced reflection of all things nature has to offer’, Eyck will be introducing a range of innovative and intriguing dishes to Manchester diners.
Eyck has won a large number of first class industry awards and in 2000 was awarded the prestigious Master of Culinary Arts (MCA), formerly the Meilleur Ouvrier de Grande Bretagne (MOGB) by the Academy of Culinary Arts, which has only ever been won by 13 chefs in the UK. In the same year he went on to win the UK Kikkoman Masters in London and other impressive awards include the Grand Prix de Cuisine at Le Trophee International de Cuisine et Patisserie in Paris; the Prix Pierre Taittinger Culinaire London; gold medal at the 6th Internationale Koochknust Austellung Vienna, Prix Honour ‘Best Exhibitor of the Show’ and two gold medals Intergastra in Stuttgart.
