Wine Dinners
The River Bar and Restaurant are set to host a series of bi-monthly wine dinners inviting wine and champagne lovers to join experts on a taste tour of the best vineyards around the world.
The first dinner is the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Dinner on 28th September 2007. The remarkable Madame Clicquot (1777-1866) is often considered the first businesswoman of the modern era, so why not sample a selection of Veuve Clicquot champagnes and hope that some of her genius slips through the delicious bubbles!
A complete calendar of dinners is then due to take tasters on a tantalising tour right through to July 2008.
November (23rd) 2007 invites guests to explore wines from South Australia’s Hollick Vineyard. Set in the cool South East corner of South Australia the wines of the Hollick winery are driven by quality and a hands-on approach and the winery is renowned for producing premium quality Coonawarra table wines.
January (28th) 2008 welcomes the Domain Chante Cigale Dinner. The rising star in Chateneuf Du Pape and highly rated by Robert Parker from The Wine Spectator the Chante Cigale white is made from a blend of Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Picpoul grape varieties, all picked at optimum ripeness and crushed immediately prior to fermentation. The resulting wine is dry, with plenty of crisp white fruit flavours on the palate leading through to an elegant refreshing finish.
March (31st) 2008 travels to the sun soaked Waterkloof Vineyard in Stellenbosch, South Africa where vineyard owner Paul Boutinet has been producing some of South Africa’s finest wines for the past twenty years.
May (16th) 2008 entices guests to the Pol Roger Champagne Dinner.
Established in 1849, Champagne Pol Roger remains family-owned and proudly independent to this day. The history and spirit of the company mirrors that of the family who bear the same name: a respect for nature, a devotion to quality, stability, continuity and mutual loyalty.
Hosted by The River Bar and Restaurant’s manager Marc Whitley, guests will be treated to a delicious tasting menu with accompanying wines and champagne and will begin the evening with canapés and drinks in the River Bar at 7.30pm.
At 7.45pm diners will be asked to move into the River Restaurant to enjoy a three or four course dinner created by National Chef of the year Eyck Zimmer and accompanied by the wines or champagnes of the region throughout each course.
To reserve a place at any of the wine dinners please contact the restaurant directly on 0161 827 4041 where full pre-payment will be taken as well as contact details to secure the reservation.
