The River Bar Approaches a 'Grand' New Level

Rocco Forte Hotel's The Lowry Hotel is delighted to announce that River Bar mixologist Stuart Bailie scooped second place in the final of the prestigious 'Grand Marnier Bartender of the Year Award' in London on 7th June.

Stuart, 26, has worked at The Lowry Hotel for nine months and this competition reveals he is Manchester's best bartender. He fought off fierce competition from 500 hopefuls to become one of only 12 finalists from the best bars in the country. He was a strong contender for first place but was unfortunately pipped at the post by a French mixologist from Milk and Honey Bar, London.

Contestants were asked to create an award winning summertime classic drink to rival the world famous Mojito and Cosmopolitan. Stuart's cocktail is aptly named "A Grand Don't Come For Free" and was inspired by the River Bar's stunning views over the river Irwell and the bright lights of the city of Manchester.

This superb cocktail encompasses a refreshing blend of Grand Marnier Courdon Rouge, Makers Mark Bourbon, fresh ginger, cardamon seeds, lemon juice, brown sugar and apple juiceand is available now in the River Bar for £7.50.

Stuart Baillie, Grand Marnier finalist, comments: "I'm delighted to have been awarded second place and overwhelmed to be classified alongside some of the top bartenders in the country. I'm really proud to be part of the fantastic team at the River Bar and to be regarded so highly as there are some fantastic bartenders in Manchester."

John Philipson, General Manager of The Lowry Hotel, comments: "We are very proud to have such an experienced mixologist as a member of our team and would like to congratulate Stuart and wish him continued success."

The Grand Marnier is now available for cocktail connoisseurs to sample at The Lowry Hotel's River Bar as of 7 June 2005 for £7.50.
